Tundra trash: Bethel prohibits plastic bags

City leaders in Alaska\'s biggest rural hub, Bethel, voted last week to ban the plastic bags and takeout containers that litter the surrounding tundra for miles with twisted, windblown plastic.
Aimed at stores and restaurants, it's a second try at grocery-bag prohibition for the city. Voters overturned a similar ban just eight years ago after businesses rebelled.

Obama administration set to reverse Bush on perchlorate levels in drinking water
The Obama administration may be poised to reverse another Bush administration decision on toxic chemicals.
Under President Bush in 2008, the Environment Protection Agency decided not to regulate perchlorate, a chemical used to make rocket fuel that has been found in drinking water and has been linked to thyroid hormone disruption in young children. Now, it looks like the agency is reconsidering that stance.

Is it surprising that some of the most profiled “environmental” advocates/activists are also lackeys of big business and parrot their pretences about environmental governance that are based on expanding the global debt based economic growth madness that caused all of the worldwide environmental problems/natural habitat destruction/biodiversity extermination/resource depletion/pollution/global warming/climate change and commensurate unhealthy lifestyles in overcrowded/traffic jammed/infernal urban bunker slums surrounded by pesticide/chemical poisoned agri-factories that some call “countryside” under the deception of “sustainable development” that is nothing other than a marketing trick to push ever more sales of ever more planet destructive mass-consumption/mass-production/mass-construction.
